Glory in the Lowest

A new poem I wrote for Christmas this year, born out of the advent reflections that became my book, “Ruining Christmas.”

Glory in the lowest, in the manger laid
Magnificent Creator as a humble babe;
Stand in awe and wonder,
Praises without number,
Worship him forever,
Incarnate King of Kings

Glory in the lowest as he walks the earth
Strong and kind and humble since the moment of his birth;
See him healing lepers,
Reaching out to sinners,
Merciful Forgiver,
The tender Great I Am

Glory in the lowest, at the crucifixion,
One forsaken moment, the goal of incarnation;
See the blood he spilled for us!
O what love he gives to us!
Depths of mercy fathomless!
The sinner’s dearest Friend

Glory in the highest, join the angels’ song
To the One who stooped for us, to make us sons of God;
Stand in awe and wonder,
Praises without number,
Worship him forever,
The holy, humble King
